TRAINING
For Kal Leski (they/them), one Colorado Springs tap class turned into years of training and a career in dance. After training in contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theatre, ballet, acro and modern techniques through competition dance they moved to NYC and earned a BA in Dance Education from Marymount Manhattan College (2016). In addition to their degree, Kal trained at Broadway Dance Center, Peridance Capezio Center, and various summer intensive programs such as Parsons Dance (2013), Blueprint (2015), Axis Connect (2019) and TOES for Dance (2020).
PERFORMANCE
Kal has danced with BABEL: a social justice dance company (2017-19) and various other projects as a freelancer, performing works by Cherice Barton, Jessica Hendrix, Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane, Sidra Bell, the 92nd Street Y Musical Theater Lab, Nancy Lushington, Alberto del Saz, Suzanne McHugh, Vivake Khamsingsavath, Crane Randle, Sarah Panayiotou Leñador and more. They have also presented choreography in NYC at MMC’s Dancers at Work (2013, 2014, 2015), the Episcopal Actor’s Guild’s production of An Inconvenient Miracle (2022) and studio competition dance programs (2014-present).
TEACHING
Kal currently teaches with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Harlem School of the Arts, Broadway Dance Center’s Children & Teens Program and full-time with Brooklyn Prospect Charter School K-5 students. In 2022, Kal was also a Community Advocate with the Dance Education Equity Association where they conducted a study of student safety at dance conventions. They are DEEA certified (2022) as well as Mental Health First Aid Certified (2019) and 200 hour Yoga Teacher Trained (2018). Creating shared safe spaces in dance education is their top priority- they believe where there is trust there can be deep growth and joy. Kal currently focuses on teaching contemporary, acro, yoga and musical theater.
